SIM REGISTRATION BROUHAHA- SAM GEORGE

Darrick Djang,

The Minister in charge of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations of the Republic of Ghana, member of parliament for the Ningo Prampram Constituency, Samuel Nartey George, on a TV3 show, addressed the issue about the sim registration, and the process it will go through.

He gave reasons why the change was inevitable and a reference to that assertion was a two-pager issued  by the Ex-Minister, Ursula Owusu, who even though was challenging the program, admitted that there were weaknesses in the system she develop.

And I quote, "The 2022-2023 SIM registration was introduced to fix the weak and unreliable 2010-2011 system by linking SIM cards to the Ghana card.

The process worked in two stages but was limited because full biometric verification could not be completed due to lack of NIA integration," by the Ex-Minister, Ursula Owusu.

For those asking the question about why the registration, according to the Minister, has been answered by the previous administration.

He went on to say that the program is being embarked on to cure the failings in the system that was attempted to be done.

He express a displeasure about the stress Ghanaians had to endure during the previous program, blaming it on someone's self interest.

The previous Minister was called out for a crony behavior which tempered with the NIA procedure and the least expected of her is to fight against the initiative of the current administration  because of the skeleton in her cupboard and all fact is ready to be let out should the Ex-Minister continue on that tangent.

A behavior of misconduct was revealed about how the technocrat at the NCA in charge of integration were sidestepped by the previous administration because they raised critical issues about the process being undertaken.

Thanks for the current President who listen, a new policy direction has been taken and a collaboration is on-going with the technocrat, a claim by him.

He clarified that it is a registration and not a re-registration and it is going to take place.

He shed more light about the inflexibility of the whole registration by the previous administration since it did not cater for all categories of people; thus refusing discrimination because the law is against it.

He listed collaboration with organization such as the NIA, the office of the Registrar of companies, the Ghana Immigration Service, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and multiple state agencies including the police to ensure that the system is robust enough.

In spite of all this, the previous administration claim of objection, is one of an accusation that the current administration is using the exact method they used, "Claims that the exercise had no value are inconsistent, especially since the current approach uses the same methods," Ursula Owusu.

The Minister rejected the claim, spelling out the discrepancies in both methods employ by his administration and the previous one.

Conversation is still on-going about the SIM registration whether or not it should be undertaken.

Do you think the SIM card registration is of  national importance, drop your comment in the below.
